Monarch Harps On Moral Studies In Education Curriculum
A second class tradi
tional ruler in Ogoni land, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Mene C.Y. Debaris, the Mene Kenwigbara has stressed the need for the inclusion of moral studies in the nation’s educational curriculum.
Mene Debaris made the call at the weekend during the burial ceremony of his late father at Bane in Khana Local Government Area.
Speaking to newsmen at the ceremony, the royal father said the call became necessary following the continued decline of moral standard and development of youths in the society.
He maintained that the integration of moral studies in the school curriculum particularly at the early stage of education would help to shape the behaviours of children and youths in their successive years of growth and outside the walls of their education.
According to him “the behaviours of our youths and children are dwindling as the day goes by. It is on this note that it has become necessary that the moral studies be integrated in our school curriculum so that the right morals may be inculcated in children beginning from their tender ages.”
Blaming the situation also on parents, Mene Debaris urged parents to act as role models as well as being vigilant over the activities of their children.
“Parents too are to be blamed because they have given low attention to the moral education of their children. It is high time every owned up to the task of ensuring that the child is morally groomed beginning from birth in order to improve upon the development of future youths and nation”, he stated.
Describing traditional rulers as custodians of peace, the royal father called for collaboration among stakeholders to enable them perform their duties and urged youths to resist being tools of violence in the society.
