Dame Amaechi Unfolds Women Dev Centres
Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has unfolded plans to build women development centre across the 23 council areas of the state.
Governor Amaechi’s wife stated this during her visit to Emohua local government in the ongoing local government tour and empowerment program for women in Rivers state.
She stated that the proposed centre would be built in partnership with relevant stakeholders and other development partners within the local government areas and added that the centre when completed will fast-track rapid economic transformation of the local economy.
According to her, the centre when completed would provide platform for engaging women in different productive capacity.
“These centres are very imperative at this time, we desire a centre that would be built by women, managed by women and utilized by women themselves, it would encourage rural dwellers at the local government to develop their local economy in their area of comparative advantage”.
Mrs Amaechi further identified the absence of holistic development policy as bane of women empowerment effort ”It is sad that women are usually used for protocol service to welcome very important personalities with peanuts, as reward for patronage, it is time, we begin to redirect the energy of our women and use their capacity to develop the society”.
She hinted of the importance attached to the project and stressed that a new women association. under the auspices of Rivers State Women Association of Nigeria has been formed to promote remarkable platform for women capacity development
“This centre will be built under the platform of Rivers State Women Association of Nigeria (RIVWAN) and will provide the enabling infrastructure and support for developing local content of our women”.
The governor’s wife said that construction work will commence in 10 council areas while foundation stone for Okrika and Ahoada-East Local Government women development secretariat s have been laid
Mrs Amaechi who expressed appreciation on the acceptability of project among rural dwellers and expressed optimism that it will serve as a rallying point that will address issues of unemployment and lack of commitment and capacity of women to actualize their full potential”.
She added that a technical committee has been set up to provide assistance for early take off of the project.
Mrs Amaechi who began her local government tour last Monday had visited eight local government areas where she presented various gifts items and employment kits to deserving beneficiaries including holding a youth mentoring and personal development, session ,dedication service of the local government areas as well as an interactive session with major stakeholders within the council areas especially with women groups.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
