Amaechi’s Aide Reassures On ICT
The Special Adviser to the
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi on ICT, Engr Goodliff Nmekini, has reassured Rivers people of the government’s earlier resolve to pay serious attention to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development of the state.
Nmekini, who spoke during the launching of the Badiliko Hubs Project by the State Information and Communication department in collaboration with the British Council and Microsoft Corporation, said the synergy would yield the needed result in the ICT sector.
He said that the project, would act as a major strand of the connecting classrooms schools programmes.
According to him, the development will aid innovative teaching in the country via ICT.
“About 21 digital hubs installed in Nigeria, the state is already hosting three, which is targeted for improved educational outcomes for young people.
“The Badiliko Hubs Project as we learnt, has the improvement of digital access and quality education in rural communities in the sub-saharan Africa as other of its targets”, he said.
He further explained that the connecting classrooms project started in Nigeria in 2010 with about six digital hubs, pointing out that in 2011, the British council in partnership with Microsoft corporation decided to install more 15 hubs.
“The state, grabbed three opportunities, one at Rotimi Amaechi Centre Excellence in Elele, Ikwerre local government area, another at the University of Education, Ndele, in Emohua local government while the last one was sited at the state ICT centre, Port Harcourt, along Port Harcourt/Aba Expressway,” he said.
It would be recalled that the State Government in collaboration with British Council, Microsoft Corporation launched Badiliko Project in Port Harcourt last Wednesday.
