Commercial Driver Loses Car To Fire
A commercial driver, Mr.
Isaac Olubanjo last Wednesday, lost his Nissan taxi to fire at the Bolingo Junction, Central Area of Abuja.
Olubanjo, who cried while speaking with our correspondent in Abuja after the incident, said there was no sign of electrical fault in the car before the incident.
He said the incident happened when he was driving the car from National Defence College to Airport Road, after the day’s work.
The driver said his licence, as well as his day’s income were all burnt in the car.
He added that he noticed the incident through a noise from the car engine after the police officer controlling traffic at the junction stopped him.
“It was after I was stopped by the police officer at the junction that I heard a noise from the engine of the car.
“Before I knew what was happening, smoke had covered everywhere and every effort I made to open the bonnet yielded no result.
“Efforts by other motorists to help the situation by providing fire extinguishers also yielded no result and as I speak to you, the car is 100 per cent burnt.”
The driver, who was the only occupant of the car at the time, said the car was offered to him on agreement to be remitting certain amount to the owner on daily basis.
An eye witness who wished anonymity told our Correspondent that the incident occurred at 6 p.m., adding that no live was lost.
