RSESA Condemns Burning Of Refuse Dumps
The Rivers State
Environmental Sanitation Authority, (RSESA) has said that the burning of refuse dumps by unknown persons during the dry season was unacceptable.
The authority’s spokesman, Mr. Olalekan Ige who spoke to our correspondent on the issue in his office yesterday said the practice had at no time been approved by the agency.
He said those involved in such practices were mischievous persons who do not know the implications of their actions.
According to him, burning of refuse of any kind comes with its own dangers even as he said such fires could get out of hand and spread if not well attended to.
He further explained that the obnoxious fumes from such burning helps in depleting the Ozone layer which has already been overstretched.
On the health implications, he said since all manner of refuse were subjected to indiscriminate burning, the danger of inhaling harmful elements should not be over looked especially for those with poor health history and children in particular.
