Fayemi Wants More Job Opportunities For Youths
Governor Kayode
Fayemi of Ekiti State last Tuesday called for the creation of more job opportunities for youths in the country.
Fayemi made the call at the ongoing Annual Population Lecture organised by the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) in Abuja.
He said government and stakeholders could do this through the diversification of the nation’s economy.
“The government needs to develop and activate a policy framework and regime that removes obstacles to private enterprise and taps into the energies and passions of a new generation.
“This will make the private sector to unleash its innovative and entrepreneurial capabilities, alongside the creation of opportunities for political expression. We cannot afford to allow population explosion without corresponding policies to contain it’’, he said.
According to him, Nigeria’s demography is pushing the country into economic configurations defined by inequality, poor education and health standards.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on House of Representatives, Hajia Saudatu Sani, said with the diversification-friendly policies, Nigeria’s economy would benefit tremendously from non-oil sector.
She said the population of Nigeria should be an asset rather than a burden adding that proactive measures are needed to effectively manage the country’s over 150 million people’’, she said.
