Federal Mass Transit: NARTO Charges Members To Re-Pay Loans
The National Associa
tion of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has expressed worries over the failure of the Federal Government-assisted mass transit scheme beneficiaries to meet the monthly repayment dues on their loans.
President of NARTO, Alhaji Kassim Ibrahim-Bataiya, made this known last Wednesday in Gombe at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the association.
“The failure by our members, who are beneficiaries of the Federal Government-assisted Mass Transit Scheme, to pay their monthly rentals towards defraying the loan advanced them is worrisome”, he said.
He, therefore, called on the defaulters to repay their loans so that others would be in position to benefit from such gestures in the future.
Ibrahim-Bataiya said his administration had ensured improvement in salaries and condition of service for petroleum and tanker drivers and maintained “insurance scheme for drivers in the wet and dry cargo section of our operations”.
Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo, represented by the Commissioner for Transport and Housing, Mr Rabenson Wasa, described NARTO as the live wire of economic activities in the country.
Dankwambo said because of the critical role transport plays in any economy, his administration would continue to invest in the transport sector.
The governor urged NARTO members to support his administration to realise its development goals.
