Rotary Club Partners Government To Improve Environment
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA District 9140 has indicated its readiness to partner with the Rivers State Government to address poor environmental conditions in the state.
The club President, Rotarian Medline Tador said this during a courtesy call on the commissioner for environment, Dr. Nyema Weli, in his office Rotarian Tador who decried the continuous pollution of the State, said that the club would partner with the government to sensitise the people on the importance of environmental cleanliness.
She also commended the commissioner for the proposed tree planting campaign and disclosed plan by the club to organize an induction ceremony.
Earlier, the state commissioner for environment, Dr. Nyema Weli stressed the need for non governmental organizations in the state to join in the forthcoming tree planting campaign.
The commissioner said that the ministry had put in place modalities to encourage both families and corporate bodies to planting trees in their vicinities.
According to him, the programme is part of the effort by the government to return Port Harcourt to its garden city status, describing it as a huge and expensive prospect that cannot be done alone by the government.
He also commended the club for its willingness to support the government in this venture and urged others to emulate it.
