Community Needs Better Roads To Check Flooding
Residents of Madobi Community in the Dutse local government area of Jigawa, have called on government to construct drains and roads to check flooding in the area.
A cross-section of the residents made the call in an interview with our correspondent in Dutse recently.
One of the residents, Malam Abubakar Muhammad, said that lack of drains was the major problem of people living in the area.
Muhammad expressed regrets that whenever it rained in the area, the rain water flowed into homes.
He said there was a particular area where the water usually drained into, noting that the development had posed threats to residents.
“The water is stagnant and can cause diseases among people living in this community,’’ he said.
Another resident, Mr Abdullahi Tela, said the community used to be cut off from the rest of the council when rain fell in the area, due to a lack of good road.
Tela said that people found it difficult to go out of the area when it rained, adding that people had to take other roads before going out.
He explained that farmers in the community had also found it difficult to take their produce to markets, due to lack of good roads.
‘Farmers in this area and its neighbouring communities like Baranda and Katanga faced difficulties while transporting their produce to the market,’’ he said.
Also commenting, the District Head of the community, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, said that the major problems faced by community was a lack of good roads and drains.
The residents, however, commended the Dutse local government for providing electricity, water and health-care facilities.
When contacted, the Chairman of Dutse Local Government Council, Alhaji AbdulAziz Dankofa, said that the council was executing projects in accordance with the provisions of the council’s 2013 budget.
Dankofa told the residents to exercise patience as the council would construct drains next year, saying that road construction would also be embarked upon in due course.
