Ocean Terminal Reclamation Completes, 2013
The General Manager of INTELS Nigeria Limited, Mr Johna Coetzer has disclosed that sand filling of 95 hectre of land at the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT), Phase Four at Onne, Rivers State would be completed next year.
Mr Johna Coetzer dropped this hint in a paper he presented during the visit of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) Board of Directors to the company at Onne, Rivers State recently.
He said a sand filling of 70 hectre of land at the Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT) at Onne would also be completed in 2014.
According to him, the contracts were approved in 2011, as part of efforts to develop one stop transit and supply base within the port.
The General Manger also disclosed that Jetty and guay apron connection between FOT berth six and West Africa container Terminal (WACT) Berth Seven is in progress.
Mr Coetzer said the company is also embarking on the construction of three more berths, to be known as berth nine, ten and eleven after the WACT office in the Port complex, sanning up to 250 metres each.
The development of a new trailer park is on course as water supply to berths four to six had also been completed, while six megawatt power station and four sub-stations to serve the entire federal ocean terminal (FOT) had been completed, he opined.
The INTEL boss further hinted that six megawatt power station with six sub-stations have also been completed at the federal lighter terminal (FLT) Onne.
Meanwhile, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a sum of about N420 bn for the construction of phase 4 of the Onne Oil and Gas Port, in Rivers State.
The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, who briefed State House correspondents after the weekly FEC meeting recently said the project would generate about 20,000 jobs on completion.
Mr Maku said the concept for the development of the facilities at the Port is to decongest the Lagos and Port Harcourt Ports, while entrenching private public partnership (PPP) in the establishment and upgrading of public sector facilities.
He said the project is justified as it is expected to generate 4,000 job opportunities for both professional during its execution and about 20,000 direct and indirect job opportunities when fully operational in the next six years with a concession period of 25 years to be sorely re-funded by the contractors, Messrs Deep Offshore Servcies Nigeria Limited.
The cost of the contract to be amortized from the services boat and other port charges in all the ports, he said, and added that Ibaka Deep Sea in Cross River and Lagos Deep Sea Ports are also being developed to facilitate easy activities at the nation’s major ports.
The approval is sequel to a memo presented by the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar to the president.
