Golden Eaglets Thrash Diamond FC 5-0
Striker Taiwo Awoniyi was the Golden Eaglets’ star player last Saturday when he scored a hat trick in a 5-0 thrashing of Diamond FC Academy of Umuahia.
Awoniyi in the match played at the Saint Patrick’s College, Calabar, in the morning, scored two goals in the 10th and 20th minutes.
He scored his third goal in the 67th minute.
Defender Izu Omego and midfielder, Ifeanyi Friday also scored in the 34th and 38th minutes respectively.
Coach Wilfred Ndube of the five months old Diamond Academy said that the match was an opportunity for the team to learn some tricks of the game.
“We are impressed despite losing to a superior team. We came, we saw but we were conquered.
“The whole essence of this friendly is to expose our players to the rigours of competitive matches and we are very impressed with the standard of the Golden Eaglets.
“Frankly, I have been able to learn so much in this match and I could see that the Golden Eaglets are a very good side.
“I pray they would be able to keep their good form when they go to Morocco in April,” Ndube said.
Awoniyi said he dedicated his recent form to his family and his first coach, Abdulrasak Olojo, who nurtured him at United Academy, Ilorin.
“I’m so happy with the goals I scored today but I couldn’t have done
it alone without the assistance of my teammates.
“I remember my family members and I’m dedicating the goals to them. I can’t also forget my coach at the grassroots, Coach Abdulrasak Olojo,” he said.
