German Federal Parliament Visits Lagos
A delegation from the German Federal Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag) is expected to arrive in Lagos, Nigeria’s former capital city at the weekend for a fact finding visit.
The high powered delegation which is headed by Mr. Uwe Kekeritz a member of the German parliament (MP), is the first for a very long time to visit Lagos, a city widely known for her
bursting and dynamic economic activities.
The Nigerian former capital city and now flourishing economic and cultural hub of the country and beyond the West African sub-region, will also be hosting this weekend, the President of the German Federal Environment Agency, Mr. Jochen Flashbarth who will later proceed to Ibadan and Abuja on a lecture tour.
Meanwhile, the delegation will visit Eco Atlantic City site, obtain information about problems of coastal erosion due to climate change and man-made interventions. The group will also visit Beachland Estate at Ibafon, former nucleus of the German community as well as the stilted settlements on the banks of the Lagos Lagoon.
The delegation will also visit EFInA (Enhancing Financial Innovation & Access) dealing with financial inclusion and micro-banking funded amongst others by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The German MPs, among the highly Africa interested and experienced Mr Hartmut Fischer MP, will equally be meeting with some personalities who are active in the cultural sector, research scholarship holders of Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation and members of the German business community.
During a reception to be hosted in their honour by the Consular General-General, Walter by von den Driesch, they will also meet with members of Lagos State House of Assembly, members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps in Lagos as well as members of the media.
The delegation will also be heading for Abuja for talks on federal government and parliamentary level after meeting with members of the German corporate community in Lagos.
