NYSC Member Donates Mono Pump, Uniforms, To School
A National Youth Service Corps member serving at Community Secondary School Okoroagu in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, has donated mono pump to the school to solve the water problem facing students and staff of the school.
The corps member, Engr. Unennaka Samuel, also donated ten school uniforms and 50 exercise books to indigent students as a way of encouraging their educational pursuit.
Engr. Samuel told The Tide in an interview shortly after the commissioning of the pump that he was motivated to embark on the project by the difficulty faced by students and staff of the school due to lack of water, a situation he said, forced members of the school community to trek to the village to fetch water for their needs.
Engr. Samuel, who is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Anambra State University, Uli explained that he was prompted to assist the students when he discovered that his neighbour’s child did not attend school stressing that when he enquired from the child, he discovered that it was because, the child did not have a school uniform.
“To assist them in their educational pursuit, I decided to donate to them the exercise books.
I would have also provided them text books but the state government had already done that”, he remarked.
The corps member revealed that as part of their Community Development Service, he had pooled resources with others to assist the school to lay foundation for corps members lodge as they do not have accommodation within the school premises.
He expressed gratitude to God and Evangelist (Mrs) Favour Benedith of Jesus Super Market Ministry for the initiative and guide and advised the students and workers to put the facility provided into good use.
The chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Barrister Reginald Ukwuoma who commissioned the water project commended the corps member for his selfless effort and charged others to emulate the good gesture. Represented by one of his aids, Mr Sunday Nnodim, the council boss particularly urged other corps members serving in Etche land to leave legacy for which they would be remembered when their service year was over.
