NBA Condemns Ogoni, Ijaw Secession Plot
President of Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Joseph Daudu
(SAN) has condemned the secession bid the people of Ogoni in Rivers state and
the Bakassi people in Cross River state.
Mr. Daudu, who was at a media parley in Abuja, noted that it
was unconstitutional for any part of a federated republic like Nigeria to seek
secession and as such should not be allowed.
He also rebuked the Bayelsa State Government for declaring a
state anthem, coat of arms and a state flag.
He claims it was a lawless act that must be checked by the
federal government immediately
He noted that it was permissive to have state jingles and
anagrams to depict the achievement of a state but when the move goes beyond
that, it should be condemned and checked immediately as it had the capacity to
derail the nation.
He however did not state if the NBA will take any legal
steps to challenge the action.
