A’Ibom To Reactivate Abandoned Parks
The Akwa Ibom Ministry of Transport, has said that it is
planning to reactivate abandoned motor parks in Uyo, in collaboration with the
adjoining local governments.
Speaking last Wednesday in Uyo after inspecting the
abandoned parks, the state Commissioner for Transport, Mr Bassey Abia, said it
was necessary to reactivate the parks to decongest the city centre.
Abia said that arrangements had been concluded to
rehabilitate all the parks, and promised to sanitise the chaotic land transportation
scheme in the state capital.
He urged all operators of illegal parks to relocate to the
authorised parks.
He said that the ministry would employ persuasive but
effective means to make the operators of illegal parks cooperate with the state
government.
“We want to reduce traffic congestion in Uyo and also
deliver quality service in the land transportation scheme of the state,” the
commissioner said.
He called for the cooperation of the stakeholders to enable
the ministry to deliver on its mandate.
Our correspondent
recalls that the immediate past administration in the state had
established four modern parks in Uyo.
Two of the parks were located in the neighbouring local
government areas of Itu and Ibesikpo/Asutan.
