Estate Professionals Harp On Boosting Property Business
The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has said that it will embark on regular interface with some local government councils and oil companies to sensitise them on the revenue that can be generated from properly tax and rates, so as to boost property business in Rivers State.
Making this known at the inaugural meeting of the new executive of the Rivers State branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) in Port Harcourt last Thursday, the chairman of the institution, Mr. Emmanuel Wike said the current executive under his leadership was determined to transform estate surveying practice through new programme.
Some of the initiative according to him is the interface the body will embark upon with some local government councils that are viable in terms of property business so as to boost business in the property sector as well as boost the image of the estate practitioners.
Among the councils he said the institution will commence business with, are Obio/Akpor, Bonny and Port Harcourt City. He said that many councils have not exploited the property market.
Mr. Wike also stated that they will urge the various councils to have verification officer at the local government council level, so that issues of assessment and reports on property can be handled there.
The NIESV chairman however said that he will consolidate on the achievement of past leaders, adding that the institution was looking forward to a situation where mortgage will be easily available for housing development in Rivers State.
Other area for visit to sensitise and boost property business include the oil companies, as well as the key ministries that deal with housing and estate issues to enhance cooperation.
The Rivers NIESV boss also promised that his administration will work towards increasing the number of estate practitioners, providing a permanent secretariat for the body at the Greater Port Harcourt City, as well as instill discipline on members.
New executive members present at the meeting were Emmanuel Wike (Chairman), Dapo Olaiya (Vice), Nwokoma Nwankwo (Secretary), Mrs. Doris Onyeneke (Asst Secretary), Princewill Nwobilor (Treasurer), Elliot Orupabor (Financial Secretary) and Monday Ahine (Publicity Secretary).
Others are Morgan Amakiri (ex-officio), Ibaraye Uranta (ex officio), Gerry Ikputu (ex officio member), Ugo Ejim (ex-officio) and Sir Mark Nemeiboka (immediate past president)

Foundation To Host National Conference on Value Reorientation In Port Harcourt

The Otonti Nduka Foundation for Values Education, a non-governmental organization based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has said that foundation is set to host a one-day national conference on reviving Nigeria’s value system.
The conference which has the theme”Trends and Challenges in Upholding Values in Nigeria,” will take place on November 13, 2025, at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt.
Speaking with newsmen at the foundation’s corporate office in port Harcourt, Tuesday,the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Emeritus prof Otonti Nduka disclosed that the conference is being held in collaboration with Rivers State University (RSU) and aims to bring together professionals from across the country to discuss the nation’s values landscape and collectively reset the compass of the society’s ethical and values system.
The emeritus professor hinted that the conference will be chaired by HRM King Diete Spiff, the Amanyanbo of Twon Brass, Bayelsa State while the key note speakers include Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, and Bishop Matthew Kukah, all known for their integrity and service.
According to him, the nation’s value system has deteriorated, and concerted efforts are needed to reverse the trend and restore sanity to society , stressing that the conference is designed to chart a new course based on national values and ethical leadership.
Prof. Nduka called for support from governments, public, and private individuals to achieve the program’s objectives.
He noted that the foundation was established in 2006 to revitalize the moral fibre of Nigerian society through the enunciation, inculcation, propagation, and dissemination of positive values.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the conference, prof Hillary Wordu urged the media to partner with the foundation to create the necessary sensitization and awareness for the success of the event.
He assured that the conference would address nagging national values issues, including insecurity, corruption, election malpractice, and injustice.
