Relegation-Bound Chariots Promise Early Come Back
Coach Charles Ibeziako of relegation-bound Chariots Basketball Club of Lagos has promised that his club will return to the DStv Men’s Premier league next season.
Ibeziako disclosed this to newsmen shortly after his club lost its last match in the season to Lagos-based Islander at 74-56.
Chariots won only two out of the 14 matches of the season with just 14 points recorded.
“Obviously my team is going on relegation to Division 1, but I believe we will bounce back to the premiership next season.
“Our relegation will help the team to grow more when it eventually finds its way back to the premiership.
“We have learnt our lesson and we will go back and re-plan our strategies for early return to where we belong,” he said.
The coach, however, attributed his team’s dismal performance at the 2011/12 season to lack of concentration.
Ibeziako said some internal problems within the club led to the distraction of some of the players.
According to him, the team started the season on a very good note and recorded two victories in the early week of the season.
In other match, Police Baton of Lagos beat city rivals, Ebun Comets 62-55 to record its sixth victory from 13 matches.
Coach Mark Balogun of Police Baton said that he was happy with his players’ performance this season.
Balogun said that with their current position on the league table, they were likely to qualify for the Final-8 play-off, scheduled for later in the year in Abuja.
According to him, playing in the Final-8 is a great achievement for any club in the premiership.
