Police Rescue Kidnapped Ex-Super Eagles Player
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of ex-Super Eagles star, Christian Ogbodo who was abducted by gunmen in Efuru near Warri, Delta State in the early hours of Saturday
The former Udinese football player was kidnapped on his way back from church in Efurun.
Confirming the rescue yesterday, Delta State Police Commissioner, Ikechukwu Aduba said that the soccer star was rescued by the police in Enevor area of Delta State. He also confirmed that the police made some arrests during the rescue mission.
It will be recalled that a combined team of police and army, had launched a search party for the former Super Eagles midfielder as soon as they got wind of his kidnap
A combined team of police, soldiers and some local security men in Efurun and Warri had initated a search for the missing footballer. They were said to have beamed their searchlight especially on the creeks and forests which serves as hideout for the kidnappers.
It was also learnt that the search took the combined team to some suspected hotels and guests houses in Efurun, Warri and environs.
Ogbodo who is in the country as result of the end of 2011/2012 football season was said to have been driving about town and exposing himself to people.
Unconfirmed sources said he went for a social event the previous day where he spent huge sums of money which attracted kidnappers.
He was said to be using a branded car “Ogbodo 5” as at the time of his abduction by the kidnappers who demanded for a ransom of 150,000 Euros.
“The kidnappers phoned Christians mother and asked for a ransom of 150,000 Euros” Revealed his brother in-law Obidike Okechukwu to the Italian News Agency ANSA on Saturday.
