Rivers
Group Plans Capacity Building For Churches
A group under the aegies of Christian
Council of Nigeria (CCN), Rivers State said they would soon embark on human
resources development for their churches and members.
This would include a befitting secretariat
complex that would serve as a permanent office of CCN, a concrete project for
the differently-abled in the society as well as ensuring a United Christian
Organisation.
The Group in a statement signed by its
Chairman, Rev. Benebo Fubara-Manuel and issued after their meeting held at the
first African Church Cathedral, Aggrey Road, Port Harcourt recently said their
mission has been to facilitate and built the capacity of member churches, in
order to ensure a sustained lifestyle and transformation of the society.
According to the statement, the body as a
fellowship of churches that have been working together to promote the glory of
God in Nigeria since 1929, is spread throughout the country, and in Zonal
Councils in the six geo-political zones and states, including the Federal
Capital Territory (FCT) , Abuja.
It also stated that to achieve their goals,
all should make impact and commit themselves to exemplary lifestyle of honest,
transparency and probity.
The statement noted that when an Assembly
of the Christian Council of Nigeria voted the present executive into office
three years ago, it was challenging to the Christian faith as they struggle with
unity stressing that, “we committed ourselves as an executive to making
Christian unity our priority as we committed ourselves to all that it would
take to fight greed, crime, youth restiveness and militancy that are the result
of this global crisis”.
The body further said they would encourage
churches to trust in God and Labour honesty, and called on Christians to keep
the course of righteousness and remember that God is able to provide for them
even in times of crisis.
