New FRSC Sector Commander Resumes Work In Rivers
The Rivers State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) now has a new Sector Commander.
He is Mr. Kayode Olagunju, who takes over from the former sector commander, Mrs. Mary Kawaka, who was here for barely three months.
Briefing journalists on his resumption at his office on Monday, the State Sector Commander, Mr. Olagunju said as a former sector commander in some states, and Abuja, he would ring his wealth of experience to bear and improve the traffic situation in Rivers State.
He said his administration would ensure zero tolerance on extortion and indiscipline on the road, stressing that motorists should desist from giving bribe as well as both the giver and the taker are culpable to the law.
The new sector commander assured of working hand in glove with the police, the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) and other traffic agencies, adding that the corps special marshalls would also help traffic decongestion in the state.
Mr. Olagunju said he would carry out public enlightenment rally to educate the motoring public on safety on the road and ensure feasible operational activities on the road, and called on the public for cooperation by reporting any officer who demand or extort money from them through the phone number 08077690601, or in case of any crash, to dial 122, which is free of charge.
He assured of prompt services in case of any traffic bottleneck or accident, and warned that violators of the traffic rules and regulation who either carry over-load, drive against traffic or disobey the rules, would be dealt with as the surveillance task force is on ground to arrest offenders.
The commander also warned against under-aged drivers below the age of 18-years, saying the command would prosecute both parents and guardians of such person as well as the driver, saying “we shall take drastic action against such offenders no matter how highly placed.
Mr. Olagunju however appealed to the Rivers State Government, corporate organisation and the public for more vehicles and ambulances to carry out their duties effectively in the state, and assured of partnering with the press to achieve their goal.
