Rivers TUC Condemns Boko Haram Attacks
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Rivers chapter, has described the violent attacks in parts of the country as “strange.”
The state Congress Chairman, Mr Chika Onuegbu, said on Thursday in Port Harcourt, that Nigeria was known for unity and peaceful coexistence.
He said that the suicide bombings which had crept into the country would not have come if Nigerians had maintained the peace and harmony that existed among them.
Onuegbu said that although insecurity had become a global problem, it was retarding socio-economic activities in the country.
He said that development could not come in an atmosphere of insecurity, adding that the killing of people and wanton destruction of property was bad for the nation’s development.
Onuegbu said insecurity had become a global problem which must be jointly addressed.
“We must imbibe the spirit of love to move the country forward; all hands must be on deck to curtail the menace of Boko Haram, kidnapping and robbery.
“Life is sacred and must, therefore, be respected, preserved and protected at all times.
“The fight against insecurity is not just for the government and security agencies, but traditional and religious leaders, the media and members of the public,” Onuegbu said.
The Chairman called on the Federal Government to review its strategies to tackle the menace of violence in the country.
Onuegbu urged the security agencies to double their efforts in tackling violence in the country.
