Toby Heads N60bn UNN Dev Fund Plan …As Alumni Set For Golden Jubilee

As part of events marking the celebration of the 50th anniversary ceremony of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the university Alumni, has planned a strategic fund raising slated for Saturday, aimed at raising the sum of N60billion for the development of the university.

Chairman of the National Organsing Committee of the anniversary and a pioneer student of the university, Sir Gabriel Toby made this known while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday.

Sir Toby said the strategic planning was in line with the objectives of the founding fathers of the university, which were based on the concept of service and the needs of Nigeria as an emerging nation.

He said UNN had over the years fashioned out educational programmes that propelled Nigerians into the domain of vocational education as well as scientific innovation and invention.

Sir Toby said the NOC was determined to reinvigorate the spirit of the founding fathers of the university and strengthen the university’s financial base through fund raising as well as eliciting enduring private/public partnership for the institution’s development.

According to Sir Toby, the funds raised would be chanelled towards construction of a befitting Senate building for the university, building a high capacity campus water scheme, construction of more lecture rooms, students hostels and staff quarters.

The former Rivers State Deputy Governor, said the Alumni fund raising dinner had been successfully held in Abuja and Lagos zones, but the Port Harcourt zone fund raising dinner would hold tomorrow at the Banquet Hall of Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt.

Also speaking, the chairman of the local organising committee, Mazi Nnamdi Okuadigbo said the golden jubilee anniversary was worth celebrating, as the institution had kept faith with its ideology of ‘Restoring the Dignity of Man’

Mazi Okuadigbo who is the President of the Port Harcourt branch of the Alumni called on all and sundry to attend the fund- raising dinner.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
