Ex-IPMAN Boss Harps On Full Deregulation
The immediate past
chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria in Akwa Ib om State, Victor Etefia, has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to support the Federal Government policy on the deregulation of petroleum sector.
Etefia made the call on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Uyo.
He said that this was the only solution to the renewed fuel scarcity being experienced in the state and in some parts of the country.
“The secondary source of supply, which is importation through private tank-farms and depots, will soon collapse.
“Because, the importers are not sure of getting re-imbursement from the Federal Government.
“They may not likely import any longer as there are no guarantees for the payment of differentials.
“Where do we get 35 million litres of fuel to meet our daily consumption rate in Nigeria when refineries are not working and the importers are not importing?” Etefia asked.
He said that the current fuel scarcity was the consequence of the collapsed sources of supply.
“The complete deregulation of the sector is the only panacea to scarcity of petroleum product in the country,” Etefia said.
He said that at the initial stage of the deregulation, the price would go up to between N150 and N200 per litre, but it would come down after sometime.
Etefia also called on the Federal Government to encourage investors to build refineries and fuel depots in Akwa Ibom, being a major oil producing state in Nigeria.
