Dickson Vows To Check Oil Bunkering
The Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Seriake Dickson, says he will set up a taskforce that would checkmate the issues of pipeline vandalisation and oil theft rampant in the local areas of the state.
To this end, Governor Dickson said, local government chairmen should brace up to assist the state to stampout this menace which tends to cripple the economy of the state apart from the risk of environmental degradation.
Governor Dickson who stated this while addressing chairmen of the eight local government areas of the state in a meeting he held with them in Government House, Yenagoa said there is need for transparency in presiding the affairs of the people.
He acknowledged different problems confronting the council chairmen, and pledged that with their co-operation, an escape route would be found as to offer the people the best of service.
According to him, the wage bill of six billion naira monthly for the workforce was not acceptable, as this cannot grant the desired development of both human and infrastructures expected from government by the masses.
“ I am aware that all strata of government is bogged down over the years by over-bloated workforce. I have received preliminary briefings and I know that the workforce you have is not tenable, not maintainable and unsustainable. But I know that a lot of people who have the opportunity to take those decisions to sanitise the system for one reason or the other had not done so’’.
He lamented that even though the state was the smallest in the country, it has the highest number of workforce, arguing that the hugh wage bill was a hinderance to effective deliverance of service.
Responding on behalf of the chairmen, Chief Tiwe Orunimighe expressed appreciation to the governor for his open-mindedness in addressing several issues affecting the council and pledged the loyalty of all his colleagues to the new administration..
Onunimighe said the isuues of illegal refinery had become an embrassment which demand collaborative efforts to check those involved.
