Poor Management Of Fishing Trawlers Worries RSG
The Rivers State Government has summoned the former management of Vijons Investment Limited over the poor management of the government fishing trawlers.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Aquaculture/Deep Sea Fishing, Hon. Kurotomunoye Briggs who gave the directive during a visit to the Borokiri Fishing Terminal in Port Harcourt, said that the government is not happy over a breach of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the fishing company.
Hon. Briggs decried the rot in the fishing trawlers, noting that if, it has been put into good use, employment opportunities would have been created in the state.
He lamented that government was yet to get the financial benefits, from the trawlers after spending so much money to acquire them.
Meanwhile, a panel to investigate the immediate and remote problems militating against the operation of aquaculture and deep sea fishing in the state has been constituted by the government.
According to a press release made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt, the panel is headed by Dr. Ibiba Jack, as chairman, while Messrs Ogbunybada D.N. and Clement Mpi would serve as Vice Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
Other members are, Prof. Boma Oruwari of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Mr. Yellow A.O. of the Ministry of Agriculture and Engr. Inaye Jack.
Also making the list are, Chief Walter Akpannah, Engr. I.T. Woy, Dr. Awotein Nimi D. George, Engr. Dom Okafor, Mr. Boma Briggs, Hon. Clapton Ogolo, Mr. I. Mark Jack, Mbree Benneth and Nwori Imabibo.
The release signed by the Special Adviser on aquaculture/deep sea fishing, Hon. Kurotamunye Briggs said that the panel will be inaugurated today at Block A Room 737 of the State Secretariat Complex.
