Chevron Commissions Housing Units For Rivers Communities
Determined to achieve the objectives of Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU within its areas of operation, the Chevron / NNPC Joint Venture, has commissioned four housing units in four communities of Robertkiri, Offoinama, Luckyland and Boro in Kula of Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Commissioning the projects at Robertkiri community in Kula recently, the General manager, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron, Engr. Femi Odumabo pledged the commitment of the company to the GMoU project. He said the project was due to the return of peace in the Niger Delta, and called on the benefiting communities to make judicious use of the projects.
Odumabo who was represented by Ngo Kio, called on youths in the area to always embrace peace and dialogue in their demands as the only way to attract sustainable economic development in the Niger Delta. In his remark, the Hon Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Development, Hon Charles Okaye commended Chevron for the projects and called on the communities to maintain the them.
The commissioner who was represented by Charles Opurum pledged the support of Rivers State to the GMoU process.
Speaking on behalf of the benefiting communities, Alabo Ajumogobia thanked Chevron for the projects, and called on the company to do more to alleviate the plight of the people.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Kula Regional Development Council, (RDC), Hon Stanley Benibo, pledged the commitment of the RDC in the management of funds provided for the implementation of the GMoU process in the beneficiary communities.
