NIS Teams Win Samsung Beach Volleyball Tour
The male and female teams of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) last Saturday in Abuja won the Samsung Beach Volleyball Tour 2011.
The Tidesports reports that the competition, which was sponsored by Samsung Electronics West Africa at the Jabi Lake Dam’s Park and Garden, had begun last Thursday.
In the male competition, NIS took the first position by defeating Benue 2-0 with 21-19 and 15-12 scores.
NIS had beaten Niger 2-0 in the semi-finals, while Benue beat Gombe 2-1, with scores of 21-18, 17-21, 15-9.
In the third-place match, Gombe beat Niger 2-0, winning 21-16, 21-18.
The female competition saw NIS taking the first position by also beating Benue 2-1 (21-18, 17-21, 15-9).
Adamawa, 0-2 losers to Benue in the semi-finals, overcame their lethargy to finish in third position by beating Kaduna 2-0, with 21-13 and 15-3 scores.
Male winners in the competition were rewarded with Samsung Electronics products, while the team had a cash prize of N150,000 and two air conditioners.
The runners-up had a cash prize of N70,000 and two DVD home theatres, while N50,000 cash and a DVD player went to the third-placed team.
The female winners earned N100,000 cash prize, while N60,000 and N40,000 went to the runners-up and third-placed teams respectively.
Tidesports reports that the competition was organised by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) as part of activities to boost beach volleyball in the country.
