Royal Father Urges Expansion Of NYSC Scheme
A Royal Father says it is about time the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme was expanded to make it a national service for all youths once they attain the age of 18.
His Royal Majesty, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, raised the point while delievering a goodwill message at the 19th – 23rd combined convocation ceremony of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, recently.
King Diete-Spiff said that the scheme when expanded, would be more comprehensive and the youths can be orientated to have that love for their nation realising that the future belongs to them.
The Royal Father emphasised that the youth must be prepared, trained and get ready to bear the major burden of nation league of leadership.
He recalled his membership of the council when the NYSC scheme was established noting that now, the scheme covers only graudates.
He explained that the name of the scheme itself is National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) and not National Graduate Corps.
King Diete-Spiff, who was the former Military Administrator of old Rivers State, congratulated RSUST authorities for getting the convocation up to date as well as giving a sense of belonging to all graduands.
To the graduands, “Bravo and well done”, he expressed.
“To the others, please remember that university is the right of every child and every child of this country should aspire to becoming a graduate”, the royal father advised.
