Group Tasks Energy Commissioner On Service Delivery
The Rivers State Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Hon. Okey Amadi, has been urged to deliver credibly to attract government attention to Etche ethnic nationality.
The Group under the aegis of Neighbour-To-Neighbour in Etche Local Government, said the best way to attract more government attention to a people was to ensure a proper service delivery and superior administrative prowess.
In a statement signed by Messrs Daniel Njoku, Nnanna Opurum and Okey Okere, chairman, secretary and publicity secretary respectively and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt, noted that the position was given Hon Amadi based on trust and past records.
They expressed hope that the commissioner would perform satisfactorily to both the government and Etche people.
According to them, the failure of Okey Amadi will be tantamount to betrayal, while pleading with Governor Amaechi to consider more Etche people in other positions of trust.
They are of the view that the commissioner’s appointment is a testimony of proven integrity, saying that the present administration is concerned about the welfare of the Etche people.
Relatively, the group applauded Governor Amaechi for the appointment of Hon. Alwell Onyeso as Chairman, Rivers State Post Primary Schools Board.
The Neighbour-To-Neighbour group, noted that Onyeso’s appointment is a mere indication that Amaechi is a friend of the Etches.
It also urged the medium to pledge its support to the state governor and Hons Amadi and Onyeso, adding that their leadership styles have so far placed the area in an enviable position in the state.
Meanwhile, they have called on Rivers people to support Amaechi to actualise his good dreams and visions for the state by shunning acts of lawlessness.

Sugar Tax ‘ll Threaten Manufacturing Sector, Says CPPE
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer, CPPE, Muda Yusuf, said while public health concerns such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases deserve attention, imposing an additional sugar-specific tax was economically risky and poorly suited to Nigeria’s current realities of high inflation, weak consumer purchasing power and rising production costs.
According to him, manufacturers in the non-alcoholic beverage segment are already facing heavy fiscal and cost pressures.
“The proposition of a sugar-specific tax is misplaced, economically risky, and weakly supported by empirical evidence, especially when viewed against Nigeria’s prevailing structural and macroeconomic realities.
The CPPE boss noted that retail prices of many non-alcoholic beverages have risen by about 50 per cent over the past two years, even without the introduction of new taxes, further squeezing consumers.
Yusuf further expressed reservation on the effectiveness of sugar taxes in addressing the root causes of non-communicable diseases in Nigeria.
