RSG Set To Develop Software For Teachers
In order to drive the implementation of the new Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) in the state, the Rivers State Ministry of Education says it has concluded plans to develop a software content for teachers in the state.
Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi dropped the hint, while declaring open a three-day workshop on the domestication of the nine-year Basic Education Curriculum, in Port Harcourt last week.
Dame Nemi said the move was a practical demonstration of government commitment to implement decisions reached at the Education Retreat in Calabar last year.
She added that if developed it would pave way for the domesticating of the new curriculum in order to give it a local bearing ela.
The commissioner averred that the new policy would enable teachers to source instructional materials from their immediate areas of operations, which would at the long run make teaching meaningful to pupils.
She noted that pupils in the state are being trained to appreciate and have a better understanding of their peculiar circumstance and situation.
Said she, “Besides, this means pupils will learn better and become responsible citizens that can compete favouable with their counterparts around the world beginning from their local environment”.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Richard Oforu expressed the ministry’s appreciation to the governor of Rivers State, Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for marching words with action.
He also commended all the guests and participants for being part of the workshop, as he expressed the hope that a new dawn has come for the improvement of education in the state.
