Institute Underscores Awareness Creation On Water Resources Management
The National Water Resources Institute (NWRI) on Tuesday in Kaduna, underscored the importance of creating awareness on water resources management.
Dr. Olusanjo Bamgboye, the NWRI Director, spoke at the workshop on, “Modular Curriculum Development for Technical and postgraduate Education”.
Bamgboye noted that enlightenment on water resources in Nigeria was low, hence the need for education and enlightenment for sustainable livelihood.
He said: “The required knowledge on doing things right is imperatively necessary to bring about good performance, efficient and equitable freshwater uses for sustainable livelihood in Nigeria”.
Bamgboye said the enlightenment would promote socio-economic development and enable Nigeria to be among the 20 developed nations of the world.
According to the director, the institute’s mandate is to conduct research in water resource development and management, comprising flood control, reclamation, drainage, irrigation, sanitation and hygiene, sewage, river regulation and water supply.
He further said the institute also has the responsibility to develop and promote training courses, codes of practice in water resources development and management in the country.
Bamgboye said the institute, with the support of stakeholders, would develop water education curriculum based on integrated water resources management, principles of equity, effectiveness and efficiency for vocational, technical and postgraduate students.
