17th NSF: Delta Announces Instant Cash Prize For Gold
Delta State government has approved an instant N50,000 cash award for gold medalists at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) holding in Rivers State while any individual gold medalist would be given N50,000, group sports gold medalists would receive the sum of N150,000.
This was disclosed yesterday by the Head Coach of Abula, Delta State Ikono Samuel, while felding questions from Tidesports at the Alfred-Diete-Spiff Sports Complex Port Harcourt.
According to him, the instant cash award initiative was initiated by the State Chairman of Sports Commission, Pinnic Amaju, to enable the athletes put in their best so that Delta will eventually emerge winner of the 17th edition of the NSF.
“I am optimistic that Delta will win this edition because we have also the potentials to do so.
We did it in 2009 at Kaduna and we are sure to do it again this year. “Our Sports commission chairman, Pinnic Amaju is doing this to motivate the athletes” Samuel said.,
The chief coach further disclosed that the Abula team had scaled through the semi-final stage after beating Ondo state two sets to move and will play Imo in the semi-finals tomorrow,
He expressed confidence that his team would win the gold medal in that event.
Coach Samuel commended the Rivers State Government over quality sporting facilities provided for the sports fiesta,
“Honestly, I am happy with the quality of facilities I saw, it is beyond my imagination, because what I heard before I came to Rivers State was quite different”, he stated.
He called on the state government and appropriate authorities to maintain the facilities to improve sporting activities in the state.
