NANNM Seeks Better Deal For Rivers Nurses
Rivers State Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwife, NANNM, Comrade Juliet Berewari, has called on nurses in the state to demonstrate a high sense of responsibility and dedication to duties.
While noting that human lives depended on such commitment and services also urged the government to give priority attention to the development of nursing profession in the state.
Comrade Berewari stated this during the formal swearing in of the newly elected executive of NANNM, Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, BMSH, Port Harcourt, recently.
The Rivers State NANNM boss noted that nurses were trained medical practitioners guided by ethical principles and conduct, hence it behoves on the practitioners to live up to that creed.
According to her, nurses by their professional services, deserve better condition of services, training and welfare packages from the government.
She, however, expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government over its commitment to the development of the health sector in the state.
She advised the new Exco to ensure the development of the union at the BMSH chapter.
The newly sworn-in exco include Comrade Sunday Nwiporo (chairman) Comrade Daboju Harry (vice chairman) Comrade Patience Amadi (secretary) and Comrade Beatrice Uzoma (financial secretary).
Others are Choice Amadi (auditor I) Sira Kinane (auditor II), and Agbaedeng Eli who emerged Public Relations Officer, (PRO).
In his post swearing-in remark, the Chairperson of the BMSH Chapter of the union, Comrade Sunday Nwiporo thanked members of the union for giving him the opportunity to serve the union as a branch chairman.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
