NDDC Trains 11,000 In Agric Enterprise
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it has trained more than 11,000 persons in various areas of agricultural enterprise, Mr Chibuzor Ugwuoha, the Managing Director, has said.
Ugwuoha disclosed this on Tuesday, during the inauguration of a six-man coordinating board for the Cross River State and NDDC joint venture Poultry/Hatchery Project in Port Harcourt.
He said the inauguration of the board was in keeping with the NDDC mandate of helping to alleviate poverty, generate employment and create wealth for the people of Niger Delta region.
He said he appreciated the difficulties poultry farmers faced in procuring day old chicks.
“It is hoped that this project shall provide the much needed day old chicks for poultry farmers in the region and beyond’’.
“By this time next year, it is expected that most of the chicken and eggs being
consumed in the region and beyond shall be those produced in the region and direct fallout of this project,’’ Ugwuoha said.
He urged the board members to ensure they followed due process as required by the agreement in the implementation of the project.
Responding, the Chairman of the Board, Dr Akwagaga Enyia, identified expected deliverables from the project to include high quality day old chicks, starter feeds for day old chicks, project support services and the establishment of linkages with international sources.
He said that Cross River Government was expected to commit N250 million and provide land for the project while the NDDC would contribute N126.6 million and 500kva transformer.
