Uduaghan Warns School Heads Against Levies
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has warned heads of schools in both primary and post primary institutions not to use the collection of levy to frustrate the education ambition of any child in the state.
Dr. Uduaghan, who gave the warning when the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state, Comrade Michael Akuga, paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba, said the State Government has taken over the payment of levies in primary school and JSS 1 to JSS 3 in secondary schools.
He, therefore, urged heads of schools not to deny any child access to school because of levy.
The governor noted that teachers play pivotal roles in the upbringing of children and his administration would continue to give them a pride of place.
“No child should be denied education because of levy, and I want to say that the State Government has taken over the payment of levies in the state”, he said.
Asserting that teachers were critical to the development of a child, Dr. Udaughan urged them to partner with the State Government in its effort to promote academic excellence in schools.
The governor said his administration has taken education seriously because it was central to its human capital development agenda.
He enjoined teachers in the state to join the campaign of one man one vote, explaining that as grass-root role models, they were properly positioned to educate the rural populace.
The governor assured the NUT that the handover of schools to their owners would take care of their interest, even as he explained that the implementation would take some time.
