Kaduna State Govt Awards N1.4bn Contracts
The Kaduna State Government has awarded N1.4 billion contracts for roads, water and classroom projects.
The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Saidu Adamu,told newsmen after the executive council meeting in Kaduna on Wednesday, that the projects included the construction of six township roads in Kaduna at the cost of N644 million.
Adamu said the contract, which was awarded to Mother Cat Construction Company, would be completed within four months.
He said 25 per cent of the amount had been approved for the immediate commencement of the projects.
Others include Central Market, Abba Kyari , Balarabe Musa, Ishiaku, Charles Bonnet and Kabala Costain roads.
According to him, council also awarded the contract for the construction of various roads in eight local government areas at the cost of N630 million.
He named the local government areas as Lere, Giwa, Makarfi, Kaduna North and Kaduna South, Jema’a and Igabi.
The commissioner said the council reviewed the contract for the completion of Hunkuyi Dam from N259 million to about N273 million.
Adamu said the project had reached 95 per cent completion, but some gray areas were identified and were not covered during the contract award.
He said the dam, when completed, would facilitate electricity generation, irrigation and water supply.
Adamu said the council also engaged a consultant to supervise UBE N83.3 million classroom projects.
The commissioner said the council directed political office holders to be vigilant and ensure the maintenance of peace in their areas as electioneering was heightening.
He said the state government was working hard to ensure the protection of lives and property, while more security agencies had been drafted to hot spots of the state to maintain peace.
