…Moment Of Selfless Service –Amaechi
The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has advised Christians in Nigeria to see the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as a rallying point for providing selfless services in any Community they reside in.
The governor, who made the call yesterday in a message to mark this year’s Easter celebrations said, there were lessons to imbibe in the submission of Christ to Crucifixion, even when he could have overpowered it divinely.
“If Christ can forgive people for the sins committed, then human beings can also find in Easter the opportunity to purge themselves of all evil deeds, and look up to God for divine Grace”, the message read in part.
He urged Nigerians, particularly those residing in Rivers State, to see the sacrifice that Christ made on the cross as an example of selflessness, assuring that the State Government remains committed to its programme of providing functional facilities for her citizens, across the various communities.
The Governor further stated that the society stand to benefit more if “we de-emphasize selfishness and encourage the things that promote brotherhood, peaceful co-existence, and highlight the pursuit of things that give more people joy to the state.
“The Easter season, and the resurrection offers us more chances to resolve to live Christ-like lives in the society, in order to benefit from the blood which the Son of Man shed on the cross for us all,” Amaechi stated.
He called on Christians to also use the Easter season to pray for continued Peace and unity of the country, emphasizing that there was no alternative to Peace if the nation must come out of its present challenges.
According to him “let us rise above private pocket benefits, and raise the level of love for common benefit so that we can enjoy the proceeds of his resurrection”, adding, “it is more dignifying to be your neigbours keeper.”
The Governor wished the people of the state a happy Easter celebration, and expressed satisfaction with the level of religious harmony which exists in the state between Christians, Moslems and persons of all faiths
