Opobo/Nkoro: RSIEC Fixes Bye-Election For January 2010
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has fixed January 23rd 2010 for a bye election for Ward Four of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.
The RSIEC Commissioner in charge of Public Affairs and Civic Education, Hon. Nimi Walson Jack who said this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt said that the election will enable the commission to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former councillor of the ward, Hon. Adasa Henderson Jim Wariso.
Hon. Wilson Jack urged the sixteen political parties which had already picked forms for the election to forward the venue of their primaries to the commission immediately.
He also said that the primaries for the nomination of candidates will be held on Saturday 19th December 2009 at venues within the wards between the hours of 10am and 2pm.
According to him, only those selected or nominated by the political parties in accordance with their respective constitutions and at primaries monitored and supervised by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) will be accepted as candidates for the bye-election.
