Ikhana Abandons Sharks, Again
Following the fracas which attended Wednesday’s 2-3 home loss to Enyimba in Port Harcourt, Sharks coach Kadiri Ikhana has again gone Awol.
Ikhana did not travel with the team to Bauchi, where Sharks came away witha 1-1 draw under the guidance of assistant coaches Ere Dokubo and Imama Amapakabo, and reports in Port Harcourt claim the coach left town after the midweek game.
Ikhana is said to have decided against leading the team to Bauchi following a disagreements with the Rivers State Sports Commissioner, who has still not offered him a contract.
Club Secretary Cyril Wite told Tidesports’ source that the coach was ill.
“He was assaulted by fans of the club after the loss to Enyimba, in the presence of the Sports Commissioner, who did nothing to stop them.
“The coach took ill after that and was unable to take the team to Bauchi,” Wite said.
In October, Ikhana threatened to resign if he was not offered a contract, but relented after he was given assurances that the issue would be sorted soon.
One month later, that promise remains unfulfilled, and the former African Nations Cup winner has instead been saddled with a plethora of five assistant coaches, some of whom do not see eye to eye.
During Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Wikki Tourists, Dokubo and Amapakabo had a confrontation over who should effect a substitution.
Ikhana is not expected to return until his contract situation is sorted, as the confusion at Sharks continues.
