Concentration, Key To New Zealand Whitewash – Obuh
Nigeria Coach John Obuh has pointed to his players’ concentration as the key to last Thursday night’s ruthless rout of New Zealand in their round of 16 games in Abuja.
“Everything depended on how well my players were able to concentrate,” Obuh said at the post match press conference. “This evening, they showed what they can do, and even enjoyed themselves, but in a positive way.
“The start of the match was not as easy as it seemed, and I feel slightly sorry for New Zealand that we put five past them.”
In their build-up to the tournament, the Golden Eaglets have had to overcome the culling of 15 players who failed the MRI age test.
Despite that, they remained in the eye of the storm with fresh allegations of age-cheating emerging from Nigerian football legend, Adokiye Amiesimaka, but Obuh made it clear that he always had confidence in his squad.
“I had confidence in my team from the start of the competiton, despite the problems we had.”
Nigeria are now off to the serene port city of Calabar, where they will face Korea in the quarterfinal today.
