‘NDLEA ’ll Not Spare Corrupt Officials’
The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmadu Giade has warned that while the agency will reward hard working and committed staff, it will not spare corrupt officers, no matter how highly placed.
Giade said that nobody, including staff of the agency will be spared in the fight against illicit durg cultivation, trafficking, abuse or any crime predicated on these illicit activities.
He was reacting to the declaration of Mr. Ibrahim Dan’ Azumi, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics of the agency wanted over an alleged involvement in drug trafficking at the Weekend in Lagos.
“The agency will reward hardwork and commitment to duty but will not hesitate to dismiss and prosecute any staff found to be working contrary to the interest of the agency and the country. Nobody irrespective of social status will be spared,” Giade warned.
The chairman ordered an indept investigation into the case with the assurance that all culprits will be brought to book.
A statement by Mr. Mitchell Ofoyej, NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs said Ibrahim Dan’Azumi who is currently facing disciplinary action, contracted a clearing agent in Lagos to facilitate the clearance of goods which had been found to contain illicit drugs.
The agency has appealed to members of the public to avail it of any useful information that could lead to the arrest of Ibrahim Dan’Azumi.
The wanted officer who hails from Niger State is about 1.8 metres tall and speaks Hausa and English fluently. The agency said several other arrests have been made in connection with the case.
