Yobo Foundation Lauds Amaechi’s Road Dev Programme
The International Cordinator of Joseph Yobo’s Foundation, Mr. Ausley John Miller, has expressed satisfaction with the Rivers State government in its renewed efforts in carrying out several roads construction work in Ogoni land and other local government areas.
John Miller, who spoke with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, said the construction of roads in Bori and other communities in Ogoni and other parts of the state was commendable but urged the government to ensure that the contractors handling the projects are up and doing to ensure early completion.
He said the government’s intention to provide basic amenities to the people and construction of roads has given the government good image and wide acceptance within and outside the state.
John Miller, who is based on the United States of America and a member of Movement of the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), also commended the Federal Government in granting amnesty to militants but warned that the government should sustain the present peace experienced in the Niger Delta region.
He called on the federal and state governments to work towards addressing the issues at stake such as under, development and marginalization, adding that if the issues are not promptly addressed, the crisis may resurface in future.
He noted that President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, has made a strong commitment to develop the Niger Delta region, but his next hurdle is to have the political will to implement and carry out the expected progress urgently.
“Although, the problem of the region could be solved immediately but it needs to be tackled systematically.”
He explained that what government needs to do is divide the mode of solving the problems into three phases, immediate, short and long terms, “this approach will enable the government achieve her objectives,” he said.
