The provost of College of Education, Ekiadolor, Prof. Raymond Elabo, has appealed to the Federal Government, to jettison the proposed merger of Colleges of Education with Universities for the overall development of education in the country.
He made the appeal in his welcome address at the meeting of committee of provosts of College of Education, Ekiadolor.
Prof. Elaho stated that the importance of Colleges of Education as the factories that produce qualified manpower for the laying of solid foundation for higher levels of Education could not be over emphasized, and also the idea of merging colleges of education with Universities should be dropped.
According to him, “although one is not averred to reforms, the proposed merger of colleges of education with universities is ill-advised and should be dropped in the interest of the education development of Nigeria”.
