Minister Cautions Against Illegal Taxation
The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, has warned area councils to desist from imposing exploitative taxes on residents of the Federal Capital, Senator Aliero, who gave this warning in Abuja during the Bi-Weekly FCT EXCO meeting in Gwarinpa I District, Abuja, observed that some area councils have been imposing exploitative taxes like tenement rate on the residents of FCT without commensurate services and enabling laws.
He, therefore, advised the management of the area councils to ensure that taxes to be imposed on residents are well conceived and justified to avoid exploitation and possible cases of multiple taxations.
Meanwhile, the Minister has also advised all residents who were served with tenement rate bills by the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) or any other area council to disregard such bills until an enabling law is passed by the National Assembly.
