Winning AFCON Difficult For Eagles, Etebo Admits
Recuperating Peter Etebo has admitted that winning the 2022 AFCON by the Super Eagles would be a Herculean task considering the quality of the teams heading to Cameroon.
Etebo, who has been out of action following a quadricep injury he sustained while playing for Watford in the English Premier League (EPL) believes his rehab has helped him to recover fast.
“Making the prediction for AFCON would be difficult! It’s going to be really interesting, I’m going to go for my country, Nigeria. I believe it’s going to be difficult though.” he said.
He described his Watford’s compatriot On Emmanuel Dennis as a good addition to the team since his arrival from Belgium.
“(Dennis) He’s so good, he’s got everything. Good pace, dribbling, he can take on defenders. He’s a fantastic player. One thing he said to me before every game is that he is very nervous. That will tell you he has the team on his mind.”
Etebo has made six appearances in the Premier League since arriving on loan from Stoke City in the summer, impressing from the base of midfield. He is currently on the road to recovery from his injury.
On his best ever goal, he said that was against Senegal Under-23s.
” I dribbled from the halfway line to one-on-one against the goalkeeper; that was the best goal I’ve ever scored.”
On his future with Watford, the former Stoke City star said: “To be honest I would love to stay with Watford. Everyone has been amazing, the staff, the players, I’ve loved it since day one.”
He described the EPL as one of the best leagues in the world with quality players.
