Rivers At 50: Omuma Emerges Champions In Football Event
Omuma Local Government Area, of Rivers state are the champions of the football event at the on-going Rivers at 50 Golden Jubilee celebration, as they narrowly defeated hard fighting Gokhana local government area 1-0 in the final of the competition.
Onuoha Peter’s 25th minute goal was the only goal and winner of the game.
The encounter which attracted huge crowd at the Sharks Football Club Stadium, Port Harcourt, yesterday saw both sides displayed quality football.
But the Omuma LGA dominated the game in the first stanza of the encounter which eventually yielded fruit.
On resumption, Gokhana LGA raised their game and tried several shots at goal but all was fruitless.
Generally, both sides missed scoring chances and displayed quality football.
Speaking shortly after the game, the Coach of Omuma LGA, Chinda Madison said the match was very exciting and keenly contested adding that both sides played well, but just that luck was on our side.
According to him, the players would be groomed and sustained for further competitions.
“I am very exicted, because I won and it is not easy though, but thank God I carried the day”, Madison said.
Reacting the head Coach of Gokhana LGA, Nakpa Monday, said he was very happy that his side played to finals, saying that to him it was an achievement.
In the Novelty match played earlier, private sector won public sector 2-0.
These are all events marking the Rivers State Golden Jubilee celebration.
