Business Woman Docked For Alleged N4.7m Fraud
The police last Thursday
arraigned a businesswoman, Maria Okonkwo, 42, of Pyakasa, Airport Road, Abuja, at Wuse Zone II, Magistrates’ Court for criminal breach of trust and cheating involving N4.7 million.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Monday Akoi, told the court that one Reuben Urufe of Marins Poli Estate, Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the case at Maitama Police Station sometime in July, 2013.
Akoi alleged that sometime in October 2011, the complainant entrusted the amount to the accused for the purchase of a park and garden situated at Mabushi, Abuja from him.
He further alleged that the accused dishonestly converted the money to her personal use and allocated the property to another person without refunding the plaintiff’s money.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code.
After the charges were read to the accused, she denied the allegations.
The Magistrate, Mr Anthony Ogboi, granted the accused bail for N200,000 with surety in like sum.
Ogboi ordered that the surety must have a fixed address and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case to March 3 for further hearing.
