Abua/Odual Set For Development– Ogiri
Abua/Odual Local Government Area (LGA) is set to experience “enormous development” in the next two years, according to Hon. Henry Ogiri, the Member representing the LGA constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Hon. Ogiri, who stated this on Friday during the official commissioning of Abua Central Electrification project in Ayama, Abua, hinged his optimism on the benefits of electricity in any society.
He stated in a chat with The Tide that both the youth and elderly in Abua “are not lazy.” The problem, he explained had always been what could easily be described as incapacitation.
“With the coming of electricity today to Abua/Odual, a new vista has been opened in the history of the LGA.
“There is no doubt going to be a lot of opportunities for both the young and the elderly…With this commissioning we will see our youngmen and women engaging in meaningful activities,” he said.
Such activities, he explained, include “hair dressing and barbing saloon, welding and other petty trading that requires light to function successfully.”
While thanking God and the State Government led by Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi “for making possible what had hitherto been a mirage to the people of the area, Hon. Ogiri also appreciated the fact that the presence of electricity will also attract challenges.
This, he continued, is on how to empower those who are willing to go into small scale business, and also ensure the maintenance of the electrification system.
Hon. Ogiri stated that towards ensuring the latter, arrangements have been made for youths in the area to be trained by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and the Ministry of power to ensure execution of minor maintenance services.
“Everything is being done currently to ensure that the youth of Abua/Odual are meaningfully engaged and with the peace in the area and the kind of Government we have in the state Abua/Odual will be quite different comparatively in terms of development in the next two years,” he said.
