FRSC Arrests 107 Offenders In Rivers …One Jailed, 14 Acquitted
A total of 107 traffic offenders were apprehended by the Rivers Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) during a mobile court special patrol held on 8th and 9th of this month along East West Road by Choba Divisional Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Ninety-three persons were charged with 144 offences while 14 were discharged and acquitted.
This was disclosed in a release signed by the Public Education Officer of the state command, Miss Victoria Uloma Okoro.
The release which was made available to The Tide stated that the Mobile Court was presided over by a Senior Magistrate, Barrister Kilsi Giadom, of the Rivers State Judiciary with three other legal officers of the sector and zonal commands.
The release further said, “the magistrate sentenced one recalcitrant traffic offender, Mr Chikaodili Anyanwu to jail for offences ranging from dangerous driving, driver’s licence to route violation.”
According to the release, light sign violations topped the offences chart with 36 violations.
The acting Sector Commander, Deputy Corps Commander, Frank Okwueze, lauded the 26 officers and 65 Marshals deployed for the operation for their commitment and level headedness.
Commander Okwueze also commended men of the Rivers State Police Command and Department of State Services for providing adequate security cover for the two days special operations.
The acting sector commander warned motorists and all road users not to disobey rules and regulations, pointing out that the command was more determined now to ensure that commuters do not end their journey in hospital and mortuaries but their destinations.
Reacting to the development, the Zonal Commanding Officer of Zone 6, comprising Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Bayelsa States, Assistant Corps Marshal Yakubu Attah, said the Mobile Court had come to stay in the zone and advised drivers, especially commercial vehicle operators to avoid overloading and obey all traffic regulations to stay out of trouble.
