The wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan, has
called on women in the country to support the transformation agenda of the
Federal Government.
The First Lady made the call, Monday in Warri, Delta
State while inaugurating a beauty health
centre, “TAMATARE Health and Beauty Centre’’, owned by Mrs Joyce Bozimo, wife
of Chief Broderick Bozimo.
She commended the proprietress’ effort in creating job for
the people, adding that the role of women in the ongoing reforms by the Federal
Government could not be over-emphasised
Dame Patience noted that tackling unemployment was a
priority for President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
Earlier, Mrs Bozimo said the importance of good health could
not be over-emphasised as health is wealth.
She said the centre was her contribution to reducing
unemployment in the state as well as exposing the public to healthy and
beautiful life.
In another development, the Edo State House of Assembly has
called for the revocation of the sale of the Agbede/Warake Farm originally sold
to Delt- R (Nig) Limited.
The call is contained in a resolution passed by the House in
Benin , Tuesday.
Speaking on a motion, Mr Sunday Aghedo, the Chairman of the
House Committee on Agriculture, said that the Agbede/ Warake farm was, before
its sale, an agro-based company belonging to the Edo Government.
He said that the Agbede/Warake farm covers an area
approximately 7,656.15 hectares of land and was sold to Delt-R (Nig) Limited
for N3 million.
Aghedo also noted that the farm was sold by the defunct
Bendel State Military Administration headed by Col. John Innienger.
The committee had said that it discovered that Delt-R (Nig)
Limited was expected to pay a yearly land rent of N67,034.
It said that available records showed that Delt-R (Nig)
Limited had not made any payment since the farm was transferred to it.
The chairman noted that no farming activities had taken
place on Agbede/Warake farms for the past 20 years.
The committee, therefore, recommended that the Edo
Government should immediately revoke the instruments of the sale, including the
Certificate of Occupancy and Deed of Assignment for failing to comply with the
terms of agreement.
The committee also recommended that upon revocation, the
state government should take possession of all the serviceable machinery
including tractors, harvesters and vehicles removed by Delt-R (Nig) Limited.
The Speaker, Mr Uyigue Igbe, directed that clean copies of
the recommendations be sent to the Ministries of Agriculture and Land and
Survey, Delt-R (Nig) Limited and to Gov. Adams Oshiomhole for immediate action.
